Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). Shaving of the epidermis using a scalpel and delicate touch, the provider simply abrades the surface of the skin using light feathering strokes.
This form of exfoliation removes 2-3 weeks worth of dead skin cells. It is a great treatment to have before laser procedures and chemical peels to enhance penetration of the laser and peel. Dermaplaning is most commonly used on patients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyper-pigmentation, mild acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles. This procedure results in a more refined, smooth, glowing appearance.
The only contraindications to dermaplaning include an allergy to nickel, numerous raised lesions on the skin and inflamed acne. This service is recommended every two-four weeks. There is no downtime associated with this procedure and dermaplaning is safe and effective procedure for skin rejuvenation and exfoliation.
